Krishna & Allah – Are they related?
Author: Swami Tattvananda
Dr. Zakir Naik , the members of Islamic Research Foundation, and many such Islamic scholars believe that the Holy Quran describes Allah as impersonal and he cannot be a person. They reason that ‘personal’ implies ‘limitation’ to God where as God is limitless. Many such Islamic scholars quote below verse from Holy Quran to show that Ultimate Truth or The Supreme is impersonal light. And further go on to claim that their path is superior and the latest.
“Allah is the Light.”
(The Qur’an 24.35)
For example, the 35th ayat of the 24th sura in the Holy Qur’an, states,
Allahu nurus – samawati wal – ‘ard: “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.”
In this way the Holy Qur’an describes the impersonal feature of Allah.
And then they say that all prophets come from Allah, including the Hindu gods. This same impersonal aspect of the supreme is called or termed in vedic literatures as Brahmajyoti (Supreme light), Avyakta (Unmanifest) or Supreme Brahman (supreme Spirit). But interestingly Sri Krishna In Bhagavad gita says that those who think that I have come from this impersonal or unmanifest they are Unintelligent. Bhagavad Gita:7.24
avyaktaḿ vyaktim āpannaḿ
manyante mām abuddhayah
paraḿ bhāvam ajānanto
Unintelligent men, who do not know Me perfectly, think that I, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kåñëa, was impersonal before and have now assumed this personality. Due to their small knowledge, they do not know My higher nature, which is imperishable and supreme.
Therefore according the verdict of IRF and other Islamic scholars and also from Quran that Allah is light. Then someone may ask what is this light from From Bhagavad Gita it is clear that those who think that Krishna has come from Allah they are less intelligent as per the words of Lord Krishna himself. About their Islamic or Impersonal path, Arjuna in later chapters of Bhagavad Gita asks this question to Krishna that who is supreme worshipper those who worship your impersonal (Allah) aspect or your personal (Krishna) aspect below is the verses of Arjunas question and Krishna’s answer.BG12.1
evaḿ satata-yuktā ye
bhaktās tvāḿ paryupāsate
ye cāpy aksaram avyaktaḿ
tesāḿ ke yoga-vittamāh
Arjuna inquired: Which are considered to be more perfect, those who are always properly engaged in Your devotional service or those who worship the impersonal Brahman, the unmanifested?
Then Krishna answers BG12.2
mayy āveśya mano ye māḿ
te me yuktatamā matāh
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Those who fix their minds on My personal form and are always engaged in worshiping Me with great and transcendental faith are considered by Me to be most perfect.
And again Sri Krishna in further verses says BG12.5
kleśo ‘dhikataras tesām
avyaktā hi gatir duhkhaḿ
For those whose minds are attached to the unmanifested, impersonal feature of the Supreme, advancement is very troublesome. To make progress in that discipline is always difficult for those who are embodied.
Furthermore Krishna Himself says that he is the basis or source of this impersonal aspect (Allah). Please see
this: BG 14.27
brahmano hi pratisthāham
śāśvatasya ca dharmasya
And I am the basis of the impersonal Brahman, which is immortal, imperishable and eternal and is the constitutional position of ultimate happiness.
Here the impersonal Brahman again means the impersonal aspect of the supreme which is allah.
The impersonal feature of the supreme is none other than Allah, and Krishna is the basis or the source of it, their path (Islamic) is very difficult to follow so this not my verdict but the verdict of the supreme Lord Krishna himself in Bhagavad Gita clarifies these things.
Moreover He says those who consider him as a mere human being they are fools.BG 9.11
avajānanti māḿ mūdhā
mānusīḿ tanum āśritam
paraḿ bhāvam ajānanto
Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be.
In conclusion: All the IRF members and friends should understand that Allah the impersonal aspect of the supreme comes from Krishna so in other words they are worshipping the partial manifestation of Krishna. So it is better for them to worship Krishna Himself who is the source of everything. And according to Bhagavad Gita their path is very difficult so should better take to the path of Hinduism.
